Shame - get rid of it

First church service of the new year today. It felt like forever since I'd been there. By the time I walked in, the music was already playing... I Am a Temple (great song, love it).

I'm sure there are people who received a different message than me, but what I got from Jeremy today, what stuck with me, was thinking about shame and how it affects us. Basically, he said that when we give in to the feeling of shame (or being shameful), all it does is disconnect us from people around us. Which is true. If my friends/coworkers/family only knew what I did/said/thought, they would think ill of me. They wouldn't love or support me anymore. They wouldn't like me. That was the example that was used.

So true - he nailed it on the head when he said that. That's exactly the fear that is felt.

Which reminds me of a saying that James is fond of: "Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." Dr. Seuss

Important message, good one to start off the new year. It's time to kick "shame" in the butt! :)
